Name: Jordan Wilson
Graduation Year: 2020
Feature Track or TV Track: TV Track
Contact Email: jordanwilson@g.ucla.edu OR jlwilco1@gmail.com
Short Bio: Jordan Wilson was born in La Grange, Kentucky and before long found himself with a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from The Ohio State University. But it was 2009, there was a recession on and Jordan had a childhood dream of flying in airplanes so he enlisted in the US Air Force as an Airborne Cryptolinguist, a job infinitely more tedious than it sounds. From playing King’s Cup in Tajikistan to flying dangerously low over the snow-capped Afghani mountains or tripping on Ayahuasca in a ranch house outside Tucson, Arizona, Jordan has seen some of the world. He has an ear for language but a hankering to tell stories, so after eight years of flight suit-clad shenanigans, Jordan left the military and moved to Los Angeles to be a writer. After enrolling in the Screenwriting MFA Program at UCLA as a TV-Track writer, he distinguished himself by becoming a Sloan Foundation Finalist, a graduate of the Writer’s Guild Foundation Veteran Writers Program, and a dashing Teaching Assistant – who the undergrads swear will make a terrific professor someday. Jordan has interned at Groundswell Productions, The Hollywood Reporter and makes a hell of a cup of
coffee.
Short Artist Statement: Jordan crafts character-driven stories that can make an audience laugh and weep in equal measure. He is a writer of emotional drama that never forgets the levity to be found in the simple mischief of everyday life. Though his projects range from broad comedy to dramatic thriller, Jordan writes stories revolving around sex-positivity and queer-inclusivity, his characters often fighting against the common morality of our time.
