Short Bio: Amber Lena was born and raised in Southern California in what she diplomatically refers to as suburban hell. As with many of the nerdy misfits of the world, Amber was drawn to storytelling from a young age, first as an avid reader and eventually as a writer. She describes herself as an accidental screenwriter - she stumbled into her first screenwriting class as a freshman at Pomona College and was immediately enamored. Amber graduated with a BA in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing, which was absolutely no help when looking for a “real job”. Deciding that she liked eating too much to go back to freelancing and sanity too much to stay in corporate America, she quit her job to finish her screenplay in hopes of applying to UCLA (great news, it worked out!). A self-described Italian-Mexican-American, Amber is passionate about embracing cultural diversity. In her free time, she loves cosplaying, going to Disneyland, and collecting memorabilia from the 1991 film, The Addams Family. As a lover of sci-fi and fantasy, she’s a great addition to any trivia night team.
Short Artist Statement: Amber is primarily interested in female-led narratives exploring intersecting identities and dysfunctional families. She's especially passionate about showcasing cultural diversity across genres, whether she's tackling a character-driven drama or coming-of-age comedy.
Logline #1: Underemployed and living in an unstable environment, a young woman finds herself pregnant and faced with the difficult decision of keeping the pregnancy or having an abortion. But with family, religion, and politics at play, how do you live with a choice that doesn’t feel like your own?
Logline #2: Dumped days before her 28th birthday, an outspoken Chicana woman turns to her friends for support as her life begins to spiral downwards, forcing her to finally “grow up” - whatever that means.
Logline #3: A jaded marketing executive uproots her life and returns to her childhood home in Taos, New Mexico to take care of her terminally ill, estranged mother. However, her hopes of reconciliation are met with resentment.
