Name: Candice Gallion
Graduation Year: 2021
Feature Track or TV Track: TV Track
Contact Email: cgallion19@g.ucla.edu
Short Bio: Candice’s most prized possessions are a burned DVD copy of Drop Dead Gorgeous her best friend made for her in the 6th grade, a dyke pin she puts on all her clothes, and a moleskine notebook where she writes her greatest and maybe sometimes less than amazing ideas. Through constant moves and life changes, these are the things that ground her and remind her of why she decided to become a screenwriter. She began her screenwriting journey in the film school at the University of Texas at Austin where she realized she could write stories and characters that helped others through the growing pains she experienced as a multi-racial, queer woman, from working class parents in Texas. Now, screenwriting has become her main creative outlet and biggest passion. While pursuing her degree at UCLA, she hopes to write screenplays that champion the diversity and representation she craves and feels the world needs.
Short Artist Statement: Candice likes to write stories centered on women, people of color, and queer folks. She hopes to give voice and representation in a way that has heart and humor. Her favorite genres are coming-of-age and dramedy.
