Darling, Daphne
Drama, Feature Adaptation
Based off of Anton Chekhov's, THE DARLING—A young woman in 1930s/40s America maintains the affection her beloveds by habitually co-opting and excelling in their respective vocations, securing the illusion of an identity (that of the men in her life) for the sake of loving and being loved.
City Girls Appreciate
Half-hour comedy
Two NYC-based urbanites start a YouTube channel in an attempt to gain fame and attention by appreciating and exploring certain novelties within what they call, “rural Los Angeles.”
Alma Mater: University of California, Los Angeles (B.A. Psychology)
Inspiration: Miranda July, Gaspar Noé, Mike Mills, Greta Gerwig, Joan Didion, André Butzer, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Diane Arbus, David Byrne
Bio: Originally from New York City, Samantha received her B.A. in Psychology at UCLA in 2019, before returning for an MFA in Screenwriting. Her shift toward film originated in a long-standing fascination with human behavior, especially as it relates to exploring and extracting the oddities of life and living. Her work dances across various genres, formats, tones, and themes—mental/physical health, family, friendship, love, co-dependence—but tends to find a common ground in some degree of social or political commentary. Outside of screenwriting, Samantha enjoys writing prose, songs, and the occasional bad poem. When she isn’t writing she is napping, running, and overthinking social interaction, but not typically all at once.
